The Bruschetta

Ah bruschetta. It’s the perfect snack for happy hour with friends, family, or just yourself. It’s delicious, it’s easy to make, and it goes great with a glass of wine or some cocktails. But there’s one key ingredient that can make all the difference in your bruschetta: sourdough bread.
Sourdough bread is a type of bread made from a starter culture instead of yeast. This gives it its distinct flavor and texture; it has a slightly tangy taste and a chewy texture that sets it apart from regular white or wheat bread.

Sourdough bread is also packed with health benefits; it’s higher in fiber and contains beneficial bacteria that can help promote digestive health. When it comes to bruschetta, sourdough bread is the perfect choice. Its subtle tanginess complements the flavors of the topping, while its chewy texture provides a great counterpoint to the crunchy topping.
Plus, you can use any topping you want – not just tomato-based ones – like mushrooms, liver pate, or whatever you like! So why not give sourdough bruschetta a try?

Here’s an easy recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of sourdough bread
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • Lemon zest
  • 3 cloves garlic, 2 minced, 1 to rub the bread
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) or use the BBQ, Place slices of sourdough bread on baking sheet and toast for about 5 minutes until lightly golden brown. When removing from the oven, use a garlic clove and rub on the bread. Drizzle some olive oil on the slices after. Set aside.

Meanwhile, in a medium bowl mix together tomatoes, basil leaves, olive oil, garlic, using a micro plane, shave some lemon zest in the mix then add the salt and pepper until evenly combined.

Spread tomato mixture onto each slice of toast.

Bruschetta is such an easy snack to whip up for happy hour – but don’t forget the key ingredient: sourdough bread! With its tangy flavor and chewy texture, it takes your bruschetta game up a notch. So go ahead – give this delicious recipe a try! You won’t be disappointed!
